Established in early 2009 by the Torbay Development Agency the Torbay and South Devon Employment and Skills Board (ESB) is an important new initiative which has been set up with a vision to raise the skills, aspirations and productivity of the Torbay and South Devon workforce and to support the growth of a vibrant and successful local economy.
Financially supported by Torbay Council and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) the ESB is an employer led, employer focused strategic body designed to help ensure that employers are ideally positioned to guide and influence the skills priorities for the area.
(SIF) sets out the vision and strategy for supporting the enhancement of business support and developing an enterprise culture, particularly in deprived areas.
Economic indicators show that Torbay's economy has not been developing at the same rate as other areas in the South West.

The Torbay Business Forum comprises a wide membership including representatives of local business bodies such as the Chambers of Commerce and Federation of Small Business, representatives of business sectors in Torbay including solicitors, accountants and surveyors, individual members whose business makes a significant contribution to the economy of Torbay. These representatives are joined by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, senior Council officers, senior officers from the Torbay Development Agency and other business support organisations including Business Link and Jobcentre Plus.

Torbay Development Agency subscribes to GRANTnet, a user-friendly service which helps businesses and community organisations identify potential sources of funding for specific projects. It contains the most comprehensive and up-to-date database of grants, loans and other initiatives operating in the UK. Once you have registered with GRANTnet, you will be e-mailed a password which will allow you to gain access. Having logged into the system, you will need to answer a few simple questions about your organisation and the project which you wish to undertake; GRANTnet will then provide details of all the funding schemes available.
