Regeneration Policy & External Relations / Welcome

Working in support of all functions of the TDA there is a clear focus on securing funding so that projects such as the following can be delivered.

  • Torquay Waterfront

The work of the service extends to the interpretation of regional, national and European strategy and policy so that our local work can be informed and set in the right context. We also seek to respond to Governments legislative proposals on economic development and regeneration issues.

South West of England Regional Development Agency - the Agency's mission is to increase sustainable prosperity and productivity for the region through the application of three Strategic Objectives:

  • To raise business productivity
  • To increase economic inclusion
  • To improve regional communications and partnership

Government Office South West works with regional partners and local people as central Government representation in the region. As part of central Government, they also inform the development of departments' policies from a regional perspective. Their website is www.gosw.gov.uk

The Learning & Skills Council exists to make England better skilled and more competitive. There website includes a helfpul database of training providers and training for employers and others interested in skills development. www.lsc.gov.uk/regions/SouthWest/

South West UK Brussels Office. Along with other first tier authorities in the South West Torbay is a partner in the office. The objectives of the office are

  • To ensure the South West has a clear voice in Europe, that its interests are heard and its potential explored;
  • To relay information about developments on the European level of relevance and benefit to the region;
  • To develop transnational links and opportunities for cooperation with other European regions.

Responsibilities include:

The coordination and development of bids for resources from a range of regeneration schemes such as those from the Regional Development Agency and the different European Programmes.

To provide support during the implementation phase of existing and emerging regeneration projects.

To provide essential input into a range of documents in relation to regeneration policy, these include the economic regeneration strategy, the Community Plan and the Council's Corporate Plan.

Leading the development and delivery of the Economy and Enterprise theme of the local area agreement.

Supporting the local business community in the development of the Business Improvement District proposal.

We represent Torbay's economic development interests in relation to regional and sub-regional policy and strategy development. These have included the Regional Economic Strategy, Assisted Area Review, the development of the new European funding programmes and others. Through being involved in the development process we are seeking to ensure that Torbay's needs are understood by Government and it's regional representation and agencies.
