More Support for Torbay businesses

02nd March 2010

Torbay Council's regenerative arm, the Torbay Development Agency (TDA) is launching a series of business support programmes to help local businesses develop and grow.

The launch will take place at the South West Innovation Centres' First Friday Breakfast Club at Paignton Innovation Centre at Vantage Point.

The series of courses are designed to equip local businesses with a greater understanding of business issues and to stimulate ideas for business improvement, development and growth. They will be run for the next two years.

The following courses will be delivered from Thursday 15 April 2010:

  • Boosting sales through the internet
  • Your business and how the law can help you
  • Leading your small business to success
  • Creative thinking
  • Adopting social media to boost business
  • How VAT can boost your cash flow
  • Pricing for success
  • Your best business friend - cash flow
  • Introduction to exporting: workshop and mentoring programme

The TDA has drawn together a consortium of local training providers to develop and deliver these workshops, based on the needs of local companies. Between them, these trainers have many years experience in their fields.

Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Councillor Chris Lewis, said: "Improving the Bay's economic prosperity is our number one priority. Torbay businesses have been telling us that they need help to grow and develop following the impact of the recession. We know that they form the backbone of the local economy and we want to ensure that we do everything we can to help them flourish. That is why these series of business workshops have been developed. This is a great opportunity for Torbay businesses to seize the initiative and take advantage of the support that is out there and move one step closer to a more prosperous Bay."

The courses will be delivered in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham to make it easier for businesses to attend. They will be heavily subsidised by the TDA - courses cost between £10 and £40.
