Project Investment: £1,100,000
Completion Date: March 2008
Partners: Torbay Council
As demand for modern port facilities continues to grow along the English Riviera, the TDA is to further enhance the dock and mooring facilities in Torquay's outer harbour, adjacent to Beacon Quay and Haldon Pier. Fifty swing and trot moorings are being replaced with new pontoons to create a total of 150 moorings for local people and to provide additional berthing capacity in support of maritime events.
Demand for moorings in the Town Dock area has, for many years, outstripped supply, with the waiting list currently closed.
The Town Dock will consist of a new system of pontoon berths, linked to the shore with an access bridge. This shore link will be located midway between the two old wartime embarkation ramps on the new Beacon Quay. The new Town Dock will accommodate at least 150 craft and will be for use by local resident boats, the berthing of visiting vessels, exhibitions sales and for landing purposes.
This new development follows on from the extensive redevelopment of the Torquay Waterfront and Beacon Quay and complements the new facilities on the quayside including shops, cafes, restaurants and the Living Coasts visitor attraction.
The contract for this project started on 1st October 2007. Work on site will commence in early January 2008 and due form completion in spring 2008. This development wholly complements the thriving Torquay Marina, operated by Marina Developments Ltd, which offers boat owners more comprehensive marina facilities and services.
