Princess Gardens Area

Project Investment: £10,500,000

Completion Date: TBC

Ideas of how to save Torquay's sinking promenade and dilapidated Pavilion could be transformed have been aired at special public meetings held by the Tormhun Community Partnership. The events have had particularly good turn outs with over 200 people attending each.

One issue that was debated at the meeting was do residents of torbay wish to help pay towards the repairs? Or should Developers help towards these costs? The more the public pay, the less development will be needed. But if private sector developers are expected to pay for all the repairs, there will need to be a significant amount of new development.

  • Repairs to the Pavilion - £2.0m
  • Repairs to banjo - £1.3m-£1.5m
  • Repairs to Eastern Length Walkway - £1.6m-£2.0m
  • New hard standing walking surfaces and repairs to walls etc £500k - £1.0m
  • Princess Pier repairs - £2.5m
  • Overall total - £10.5m

The Promenade and banjo areas have been closed since 2005 because of safety concerns, and the area continues to decline.

A further meeting by the Tormohun Community Partnerships will be held mid April giving a further update.
